Sweely is back with another five-track showstopping EP for the second release of Global Swing.
The French wizard has revolutionized the modern approach to music productions, banging out bottomless DIY jams from his MPC, fusing a sultry and sleazy vibe with the sleekest beats. His simple, sample based approach fuels a prolific output which is regularly posted casually on his Soundcloud and Instagram pages, as well as a few for sale on Bandcamp.
His first full length album dropped earlier this year on the Leeds/London label Butter Side Up, showcasing yet another corner of his world. The production level in each track is sublime, whilst staying within a refreshingly laid-back and carefree energy. Lush chords glaze over cheeky basslines and tongue-in-cheek vocal samples that are tried and tested on the dance floor through his ever-evolving live set.
His big release on Automatic Writing featured last year, showcasing the energetic vibe that has been stunning the circuit for a number of years now. After a busy festival season, Sweely is back on the vinyl market and in very fine form.
‘Chi-Town Shuffle’ brings the heat in this premiere for Global Swing. The Chicago based imprint have had a short but memorable presence in their first release from founder and seasoned US producer Garrett David. The stunning ‘Emergency’ featuring Simone Green from the EP was a highlight for many throughout summer.
Sweely brings his classy deep house flavours flirting sleek rhythms between a vocoder-like vocal singing romantic rhymes. Massive 808 beats give the track a wicked bounce that makes you think it could be played comfortably in an array of contexts. A classic sound palate is exquisite with a serene charm, constructing blissful synth melodies reaping with authenticity.
It’s difficult to define this playful, clubby vibe that could easily have been released in the 80s. Five tracks bring a variety of uplifting moods, working classy Rhodes chords and guitar-stab samples in ‘Bring It On’. He merges UK garage with deep house, disco and everything in-between to such a sleek finish. There aren’t many DJs you can’t imagine playing it which speaks volume’s for Sweely’s growing popularity across the world.
‘Don’t Stop’ brings another garagey bomb, keeping things stripped back with a squishy bounce and jazzy chords bringing a classy touch. Even the track names nod to the free spirited vision of his music, ‘It’s Discow Time’ is another jazzy weapon, creating a lush atmosphere through sultry piano chords and the funkiest of low ends.
The final track ‘What They Want’ is a warm slice of loopy deep house that would bring a smile to just about every dance floor. His refreshing approach to these joyful housey beats are a wonderful example of the level of top music being released today. You can catch Sweely’s impressive live set at many of the finest clubs in Europe, with gigs coming up in Berlin, Barcelona and Ibiza’s DC10.
