Premiere: Victor Montero – Sapphire (Original Mix) [405R020]

Studio 405 deem themselves as a label focused on developing and supporting new talent whilst providing a platform for artists to release minimal and tech house tracks born of ethnical influences. The digital gateway already has a long run of releases available on Beatport. The next comes far across from the Caribbean, courtesy of Victor Montero who debuts for the label with two original tracks and two remixes. Sapphire takes the title.

To begin with, deep euphoric keys shroud the track in warmth, a pleasant opening that is blasted with a growling bassline and a dreamy female vocal that will later become more prominent. Minimalism creeps along in the form of dark, choppy synth notes that echo eerily whilst atmospheric keys drift back along with a chorus of vocals, making this an easily accessible track to both minimal and house lovers.

All angles are covered here from deep and moody, to light and airy, whilst all the time packing groove; an impressive feat to have such an array of sounds that slot finely together, all in just over five and a half minutes of music. Meanwhile, two remixes take on rather different approaches. Mikhu’s take on Sapphire is more specifically tuned into the minimal, melodic side with a helping of acid, whilst Michel Degen brings a deeper and darker flavour.

Buy the tracks on Beatport from 23 December.
