After his recent white hot ‘Phonica Wednesday’ EP on MTM, Mihai Pol is back in hypnotic form on Subtil’s new release.
The 3 track ‘Making Waves’ EP really showcases Mihai Pol’s keen knack for the more musical side of minimal. ‘Lost Ark’ on A1 undulates under the bubbling synths and snapping snares but the breakdowns are so bittersweet they are sure to captivate the most discerning of dancefloors.
‘Mentalist’ over on B2 is equal parts groove and lush pads to die for, more than enough punch to see this played at more peak time points in the party there is only one place to go for full-on party mode and that is title track ‘Making Waves’ on B1.
Rounded basslines and airy pads bob and weave their way throughout the track, but once the snarling arpeggiated acid line joins in there is nowhere to go but straight up. There is little doubt in my mind that this will have already been doing serious damage everywhere it has been played and will continue to do so for some time.
A bona fide bomb if ever there was one.
