Mihai Pol remixes fellow Romanian producer Vern for Rowle’s sixth release.
The Italian label have been shaping a celestial minimal aesthetic since 2017, finding early support from the likes of Raresh, Arapu and SIT with previously premiered bombs from Sublee and Traumer.
Whilst maintaining a cosmic theme through both sound and a stunning watercolour artwork series from Berlin-based visual artist Juli Jah, a versatile roster makes up the curation of both Rowle and its sister label Abduction. Releases often feature interesting remix combinations like the Romania meets UK strut in Sublee’s remix of Niko Maxen.
New face on the Romanian underground Vern brings two inspired cuts to RWL 006, with Mihai Pol and Barut on remix duties.
The Romanian powerhouse continues a fine streak of form in the premiered remix of ‘Danube’. Muted, guitar-like melodies sing in satisfying unison between a nimble bassline that echoes the warm, laid-back vibe of Denis Kaznacheev’s Nervmusic Records.
Subtle pads occasionally wash over the mix, drizzling delicate textures that sound as if they have been built from personal field recordings, gently garnishing the loop. Breakdowns are a rarity throughout the near eight minute arrangement, adopting a progressive approach that lends itself to the minimal circuits extended, often multi-deck mixes.
Vern’s original ‘Danube’ explores an uplifting breakbeat energy, with heavily swung drums and a neat 303 sequence. ‘Euxin’ brings two slick tension builders to the B side, already favourites in the sets of Barac, Lizz and more.
