Russian imprint Simple Things welcome Herck for their fifth vinyl release.
The prolific Romanian producer shapes his fourth vinyl output of the year, as well as numerous contributions to his Bandcamp catalogue.
An experienced and devoted demeanour comes through both the artist and label in the featured release. Over 30 releases make up Simple Things digital catalogue, pushing a variety of sultry dance floor works, alongside the vinyl output.
Herck reveals another slice of his futuristic minimal madness in the featured ‘Agony’. Anchored by a wicked, slimy bassline twisting around dissonant quirks and horn-like melodies strapping in for the ride. Sequences are crafty, swimming in and out of the mix with a nifty and hypnotic nature.
This patient, long-form approach allows for elements to simmer and make more sense over a longer period. Stretching out over 12 and a half minutes, patterns allude to a natural call-and-response-like-unison, gradually joining forces with opposing textures and melodies.
It’s the strain of stripped-back minimal that comes to life on a club system. Sounds are buried low in the mix, requesting a more forbearing and attentive listen, ideally in the early hours of a great sounding dance floor.
‘Vibrazium’ and ‘Cavernal’ dive deeper into introspective realms to conclude the EP. Nimble basslines wrap around cryptic textures and soothingly meticulous percussion work.
