Barac heads to London’s FOLD for a marathon set this Friday

Barac will take the reins of London’s infamous FOLD club this Friday.

The Romanian legend is renowned for his mesmerising marathon sets, making him the perfect match for the London collective XTD. A crew with a simple ethos: great DJs on great sound systems for extended periods.

Their previous events at FOLD have been highly memorable to both artists and dancers alike. Romanian minimalist music is at the centre of their tastes, inviting the RPR legend Rhadoo several times, often playing for 8+ hours, as well as Pralesh to let loose on FOLD’s sound system.

This Friday, 19th September, XTD returns for an eight-hour showcase, this time with two rooms operating in FOLD. The Italian duo Desuba will play the warm-up slot before Barac. Two artists with a growing reputation in the capital, playing regularly before the likes of Dan Andrei, Miller and Suciu, the Goosebumps residents are no strangers to the sacred warm-up set. You can expect delicate and mindful minimal to warm up FOLD’s pristine sound system.

The steam room invites Brasi, another beloved Italian selector with the most intriguing record bag. His sound is deeply emotive, unearthing forgotten gems from the 90s, alongside new cuts from inspiring producers from today.

XTD’s curations offer an immersive opportunity that is increasingly rare in today’s clubbing climate. With the rise of large-scale festival environments and compressed set times, witnessing an artist like Barac for several hours inside FOLD will be nothing short of transcendent.

One look at Barac’s Soundcloud reveals how much he revels in long sets. Whether it’s 10 hours in Bucharest or 4 hours in Japan, the prolific artist is devoted to his craft. Well over a decade into his establish career as a DJ and producer, Barac is very much inspired by the mystical and hypnotic end of sonics. His music is clearly inspired by nature as much ritual and shamanism, aiming to reach the furthest realms of consciousness with his sounds.

Particularly when playing for so long, the room often reaches a state of sync. When everyone is tuned to the same beat, something deeply ancient and human happens, which also inspired the name of Barac’s label ‘Shamandrum’.

Often playing a lot of his own productions in his sets, there’s a common thread of spirituality and mysticism throughout. You can get a taste of his productions over on his Bandcamp which is frequently updated with 10+ minute tracks.
