Cosmjn links with XXX Culture for their second vinyl release.
The Birmingham based label propelled onto the circuit late last year with a sought after record, featuring Herck on remix duties. Continuing their explorations within intricate, micro house formulas inspired by a number of genres.
Original cuts from XXX Culture navigate through neat breakbeat, garage and minimal moods to make up this versatile release. The crew have a taste for warm, subtle rhythms, whilst packing tracks with attitude.
Crafty basslines wrap around fierce drum programming lathered with a sultry, atmospheric charm. Combining a number of influence, the label brings together the sounds of Romania’s minimal movement and UK roots through slick garage and breaks.
Taking aim at ‘Stupid Music’, Cosmjn navigates an elegant and intriguing mood in his remix. Leaving the nasty UK bassline in the mix, delicate hi-hats fizz around the low end, packed with miniscule details that the Romanian does so well.
Deep, dubby tendencies form a solid foundation in the track, meandering through mean breakbeat patterns and a fierce snare slotting between beats. The UK label brings a darker side out of Cosmjn, expressing introverted, cosmic tinged moods, it’s the kind of sultry minimal you might hear Rhadoo pumping into the mix.
This strain of UK-meets-Romanian music that we are seeing much more showcases the creativity buzzing through the contemporary scene. Energies are versatile and unique, blending a multitude of influences and genres to bring fresh and inspired ideas to the table.
Breakdowns are brief, occasionally losing a snare or hat to introduce a huge chord sequence that quickly fizzes over the mix before washing back up into the groove. The XXX Cult project have once again proved the scope for creativity and new ideas in this corner of stripped back dance music, and is quickly becoming one to watch.
