The last time we wrote about Mood Waves we followed up on the journey of Jacopo Latini and Giammarco Orsini’s production duo and live performance concept Data Memory Access. Since then the pair have debuted their live show at picnic’s 10-year fabric takeover and to say it went well is a huge understatement. For the next instalment of the hugely on point Mood Waves series we catch Jacopo in solo mode as he delivers a masterclass in vibey peak time house.
Working in reverse we begin our review with premiere B2 track ‘Synthesy (Acid Dub)’ and it perhaps marks the highlight of the release. When we say that it may be the highlight the whole EP is wicked and exudes a real touch of class in its phat rounded basslines and cosmic melodies. A gnarled acidic bassline grips the ear while the straight up drum programming pounds the senses. The stripped back melodies get straight to the point so as not to divert attention from the irresistible grooves from Jacopo.
Circling back to the start of the record and ‘Rumore Blanco’ is a significantly tougher prospect. Thudding kicks underpin the track throughout with a stern punch with the spacey pads washing over. Completing side A with ‘Illusion’ the progressive tinges to the EP continue to great effect while B1 banger ‘Rumore Rosso’ offers an excellent breakdown before nicely retro arpeggiated synths bounce back into the mix. Expect to hear a lot more from Jacopo as he asserts his place as an artist to watch.
