It’s always exciting to follow some new interesting projects and see how they’re evolving. Especially, when it is a music label and its start gathers so many nice people. So, Jessica, the now Berlin-based DJ, co-founder of Headroom Festival, and founder of the female-led music project Rhythm Sister is also starting Lapse Records. Klein / Melchner, Sasha Zlykh, Troy, and Trippsy will be her first guests there.
We’re interested in the Ukrainian wonderboys more, since today two of them are premiering, but we’ll talk about every track here, don’t worry about it.
So, B1, “Every Week”, the track that – as Sasha told me – “was written after the last party before the first lockdown”. And we’re talking about spring of 2020 here. “I found the sample, we wrote down all our ideas and the process was started” – oh, how many tracks were created on quarantine with a beginning like that, you can just imagine that number… A very catchy sample (“Work it, stupid! Every week!”), must say, after hearing it for the first time, it sat in my head for a day, be careful with that. Besides that, the broken structure of the bassline is still broken just enough to not kick you out of the rhythm. That’s a good thing.
Another Sasha’s friend who’s sitting on the b-side with him is Trippsy. Part of the Closer and THP crews has just been featured in our premieres section with his own solo track. Here we can hear a trippy and quirky roller “Happy Trance” made by the two of them. Definitely would like to hear it in some set. On the a-side, by the way, we have another duo. Don’t raise your eyebrows because of my mention of Patrick Klein and Michael Melchner above – those two are the ones, just hiding under another alias. DJ Gonzo & Dr. Yes are ready with their two belters – the slower one is called “Buran” and the faster and more bleepy one (or breaksy, as you like) is called “Ekranoplan”. Both are great, believe me here (but I still love “Buran” a bit more).
