Swedish artist and 10 Years co-founder Parallax Deep returns with the extremely tidy ‘Liquid Terrain’ EP. Having worked with Per Hammar to form an extremely rewarding partnership that has provided many noteworthy releases. His own output has not been limited to his own label and has featured for top labels such as Irenic, Maraton and now is new imprint Surfaced Trax.
Flipping over to Side B the full side is dedicated to original bomb ‘Terrain’. For the full near 12-minute run time this breakbeat journey winds its way through a cavernous soundscape dripping in acid. The undulating bassline and snappy snares combine to form a muscular framework for the moody atmosphere that swirls around it at all times.
Side A is just as atmospheric but with a more dancefloor focused groove in mind. The airy pads and twisted synths on ‘Liquid’ work especially well here in building an insistent yet organic vibe that is constantly in a state of flux. A1 completes this fine first release for Surfaced Trax and minimal master Christopher Ledger takes control of the dials on ‘Liquid‘ and he turns it outside in. Soaked in bleeding edge cinematic echo that sweeps out to fill the sound spectrum. Joined by heady synth tones and speaker busting drum riddims, Ledgers remix is powerful yet finely balanced and packed full of the expertly nuanced touches that always make his work stand out amongst his peers.
SFTRAX001 is now in stock but they are moving quickly so don’t sleep.
