Premiere: A2 – Latent – Alienation [OTD009]

French label Outdom Records continues to build an ever-impressive catalogue of releases with their ninth release. Fast approaching their milestone tenth edition, this time around Latent and Retrolog lineup on this split EP “Vertigo”.

We head straight to Latent’s “Alienation” on A2, where he lays down a barrage of detuned bass and thumping grooves. Eerily warped synths and pitched-down vocal clips are soon added to the mix, and the result is a wicked acid monster of a track that takes absolutely no prisoners. Joining Latent on side A (and side B) is Retrolog’s sinister “Danza Perpetua”. A more stripped-back offering, but just as impactful nonetheless.

Latent gets the party started on side B with “The Creator”, and he again works his magic on the vocal samples with some excellent pitch shifting and resampling. Keeping the beats stripped to just a kick, hat and snare motif, the elongated synths and pads again hint at something dastardly, and the basslines do not let us down. Retrolog completes this double team approach with “Last Round” with some excellent roomy breakbeats. Shifting tact, Retrolog blasts off into end of night territory with heartfelt strings and soaring synths to cap off OTD009 that is truly helping the label shape up to be a dominant force.
