For the landmark fiftieth release from standout Ukrainian imprint Artreform Records, they welcome newcomer Wonkie who turns in two stunning originals backed with a remix from iO Mulen. With there being an impressive back catalogue that makes up the forty-nine previous editions we are confident there are to be many more highlights to come.
Starting at the top of the release, we focus on “I Meet Somebody” and Wonkie paints a finely tuned progressive picture that utilises snappy rhythms, angular percussion and a swirling synth motif that snakes its way throughout. The extended run time of Wonkie’s original version allows the spacey magic to unfold truly and we are sure it has and will captivate any floor that bears witness to it.
Backing this up is an excellent remix of “I Meet Somebody” from none other than iO Mulen and he carefully maintains the original theme but spices things up with tidily filtering breakbeats. Not overtaking the vibe of Wonkie’s creation he adds just the right amount of attitude. Completing the release is an ode to one of the most well-known synth tracks of our time “Tubular Bells” and the result is an emotion rendition of Mike Oldfield’s seminal classic.
