Since launching back in 2018, More Than Music has been a regular feature in our premiere pages. The label, which was born of a little record store within the shores of the White Isle, has consistently delivered excellence from the off. For the latest in the series, Mihai Pol and Miroloja share the wax.
It isn’t the first time these artists have featured in the MTMLTD catalogue, this one marking them as firm fixtures in the family. And for good reason too. Pol’s ‘Phonica Wednesday’ proved something to shout about with its smile inducing bassline and Miroloja’s collab with Rowlanz captured the magic of a ‘Sunrise’ all too nicely.
‘Up’ might represent some of Mihai Pol’s finest work to date. The bassline is driven with a purposeful groove from the off, while the story begins to build with a short bending key that will go on to prevail. A subtle yet ever-present energy comes from stabbing synths, while a mischievous narrative unfolds through mystical melodies that converse with one another.
The deep, low-end chord offers an infectious personality. Playful yet mysterious, this is minimal’s own answer to the Pink Panther.
French duo Miroloja take the B side with ‘Cut Me’, a groove roller laced with a doctored vocal. Deep, dark undertones keep this one serious with a powerful bassline that will likely shake the whole room.
As an EP this is fire, but we’re learning this proves to be a given each time More Than Music announce the next. Limited copies in the exclusive pre-sale are available. Contact [email protected] directly or visit MTM Record Shop (Ibiza).
