Infectious and thoughtfully crafted sounds from Alvaro Medina as he blends house, techno and more with a 4-track EP that is equal parts techy and hypnotic.
SuperVibe Music welcomes Madrid-based artist Alvaro Medina as he steps up to the plate for their 22nd edition. With some solid studio outputs landing on the likes of Alma Records Ltd, H24 and Djebali’s Djebali Presents series, it’s safe to say things have been going from strength to strength for the Spanish artist and this release follows suit.
Celebrating a strong history of releases, Malaga-based label Supervibe has enabled a wealth of quality artists to share their music to the world through their platform. With the digi series having featured Valeria Croft, Filip Szostak, Ray Mono, Moruki and many more, the Spanish label has also welcomed Alexis Cabrera, Jnjs, Medu to release with them in physical form via 12”.
Boasting both quality and quantity in terms of output, this next release is no different, comprising of 4 originals from Alvaro Medina as he hits out with tunes that mesmerise and fascinate, well-curated developments occur atop of tight loops, equating to some seriously compelling sounds and arrangements.
Infectious from the off, “Create Your World” does exactly that as tantalising percs layer with succinctly structured simple riffs as a host of tasty stimuli fill in the gaps, flexing studio prowess in processing and synthesis. A clever accumulation takes this track right to the top with no holds barred, steppy, slick goodness that commands involuntary movement of the legs, toes and more.
“My Radio” kicks off the EP with a solid synth line that starts out slow, ushering in the listener before being stepping things up a notch with some serious low-end content when coupled with a raw bassline and well-crafted kick drums. Tasteful modulation opens up the track throughout as vocals whisper in abstract narratives.
Track 2 on the EP, “Thank you”, entertains deeper, dubbier and housier vibes as Alvaro utilises classic sounds with a modern touch. Electric energy builds through hefty bass notes, reverberating pads and classic Phil Collins style toms that invite the main riff which comes in check with some serious nods to the old skool. High-octane, loopy stuff that is bound to set the dancefloor alight.
Rounding things out, track 4. “Ebene Fume” follows suite as concisely programmed percussion is punctuated by some classic downstroke stabs. Atmospheric sound design paves the way for the addition of more percussion and some loopy plucks which provide the scaffold for some inimitable, wiry basslines that meander in the foreground whilst noises in the back bubble and slink. Consistent with the rest of the EP, Alvaro makes his musical manifesto very clear, simple and effective is the way!
Tasty tracks from both Alvaro and SuperVibe as ever. Keep ears out for this EP as im sure it’ll be getting plenty of spins over the festive period, but also stay tuned for future releases on both fronts as you know what’s to come is also gonna be quality.
