Based in the picturesque ‘city of water’, Venice, the Italian producer, composer, and DJ Paolo Mosca took a step further in his musical journey and launched his new alias I.O.N, a side project focused on experimental electronics with rock-influenced textures. The debut under his new musical identity took place at Sonnenraum in Berlin earlier this year, where he delivered an innovative live set, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career.
From label releases on Slow Life and Altered Circuits to a recent studio collaboration with Alex Neri, we’re eager to unveil his latest wax release on Ritmo London’s sub-label Ritmotherapy: a debut EP featuring four carefully crafted tracks that bridge the old with the new.
Blending old-school influences with a modern twist, our premiere track “They Are Looking at You” on side B2 fuses acid notes and funky synths with a rolling, groovy bassline. Constant movement keeps the spark alive, while subtle electro touches, housey vocals, and hints of hip-hop influences deliver a truly unique feeling of contentment that is hard to put into words as you listen to the track.
With an experimental intro that highlights the album’s broader aesthetic, “Camouflage” on A1 unfolds around a guitar-led bassline and echoed vocals. Digital percussive SFX and sharp, high-pitched accents add undeniable charm, setting an intriguing and groovy atmosphere.
A cyberpunk-leaning slow burner, “Escape” on A2 builds patiently on a deep synth bass and wide, spacey textures. A short, tension-building string motif highlights the track’s complexity, keeping the listener locked in as it gradually reveals its magic.
Starting off with a stripped-back, minimal techno intro, “Neo” on B1 stays alert and in motion. An electro-driven bassline, rolling acid 303, and shifting dynamic arrangements give the track a restless feel, evolving organically into a distinctly ’90s-flavoured tech house groove. Its ever-changing structure keeps it surprising and engaging, a certified club weapon that could cater to any given dancefloor.
Signals EP is available for orders now, so don’t think twice and get your own copy here before they sell out.
