As the year draws to a close, Portuguese label Untitled Musica serve up the third release in their growing discography. With a focus on the flavours of Romanian minimal, the platform have so far invited RQZ and Herck to the wax. This journey into the deep continues, as Tunisian producer Root takes charge on the next.
Root recently featured on our pages following an album debut on Symetric Sound, which featured eighteen of his own tracks. The music does not stop coming and he has since gone on to release another album on own label Saraw. An ever present flow of creative juices continuing to deliver on new ideas.
‘Sarab’ EP is the latest outlet of Root sound, made up of three original tracks. We have ‘Proxima Centauri’ on the premiere.
A subtle start gives little away for what’s coming. Ominous crackle feeds into a mist of texture, a storm brewing in the depths. Fuzzy soundscapes shroud mystery in the atmosphere, twisting the mind as it raises and dips.
Very carefully the bassline creeps into its own, quiet in waiting before winding into place. A rough, grinding groove becomes the centrepiece, rolling neatly over the bars. Slow, steady rhythm keeps it punching, a stripped back minimalism that is slick and slightly sinister.
Conversation filters through in the back, encased in the strange blend of white noise that surrounds it. Imagine listening to this one in the depths of a dark dance floor with your sunglasses on. Tripped and ready to focus on the journey.
Buy the record from deejay.de or Juno, due for release tomorrow.
