Welcome to part two of Artreform’s 13-year celebration release package. Last week we presented the premiere from fellow Ukrainian artist Silat Beksi, a producer and DJ who has built a reputation for slick, groovy minimal. Beksi opened part one of the series, and for the second chapter there’s more homegrown talent on show, shining a spotlight on the quality of electronic music coming out of Ukraine.
A 13 Year Journey Part 2 features io (Mulen) alongside label founder JOSS, Swedish artist Cirkel Square and a collaboration between Gorje Hewek & Binu Raal. Fittingly, we’ve got the label head’s contribution on the premiere.
‘The Sun Is On Its Way To Us’ instantly instils the confidence its title promises. From the off, a hopeful melody dances across a rippling synth, like beams of light that a bright sun brings. There’s a decent little groove underneath too, making this one perfect for the dance and those feel-good moments. Add a flash of acid into the mix and it becomes a peak-time party starter, bursting with warmth and energy.
Over on the A-side, io (Mulen) brings more of the good stuff with ‘The Moment Of Rise’, opening the record with a rave-inspired bopper that rides classic chords with a nod to the old school, steadily building towards a big-room takeover. Cirkel Square keeps the pace moving with ‘Vehemence’, where tribal rhythms meet flowing melodies. Back on the B-side, Gorje Hewek & Binu Raal close things out on a softer note with ‘Our Time’. A playful blend of deep house and melodic tones, guided by shimmering chords and a relaxed groove.
Kudos to JOSS for delivering such fine beats to mark this special occasion. What follows promises a new chapter for Artreform, welcoming fresh sounds and future moments worth celebrating. Here’s to the next 13 years.
