Premiere: B1 – Crihan – Voiajor [STMG999]

Since their launch in 2016, Secret Society Chile have been instrumental in stimulating a mutually reinforcing relationship between the burgeoning South American scene and its European counterpart. Now, the Chilean outfit has announced the launch of sublabel Southern Magic; safe to say it’s an expansion that excites us.

For their maiden release [STMG999], Southern Magic have curated a slick four-tracker in the form of the NGURU V/A, featuring the productions of G.U.S, Matip, Etro & Liroand Crihan. All four tracks impeccably embody the label’s aesthetic of reasserting the connection between human feelings and the natural world. Each production is rich in texture, showcasing the power of music that is both contemplative and communicative.

Today’s premiere comes from Bucharest’s Crihan, an artist who has truly come into his own with polished productions that offer a fresh take on the Romanian sound. The B1, Voiajor, is a sprawling slow burner that unfurls over 9 minutes of tripped-out groove. Its seductive bassline that snakes through shifting percussion and infectious drum programming, sending hypnotic vibrations through the arrangement. Each element has been primed for maximum impact, yet there’s no single moment of release as if the track is aware of its own power. With a sonic landscape reminiscent of the natural world, Voiajor leaves us unsure of our surroundings but at ease with our dimension.

The perfect afterhours affair, this is a tune guaranteed to go down well on even the most dazed dancefloors. With the other 3 cuts of equal calibre, this is not a release to sleep on. Order your copy here.
