AKTA Records return with their second vinyl release, inviting an array of European artists spanning French, Romanian, Italian and Ukrainian shades of holistic minimal house.
Premiered track ‘Superstizioni’ leans towards elegant dub techno territory from Ramona Yacef. Following a string of vinyl releases, as well as a recent debut at Sunwaves 26, consistent output of slick productions and mixes have garnered well-deserved attention around the Italian-born, Paris based artist.
A repetitive structure is grounded by a heavy, yet moreish sub-bass, producing a spatial aesthetic with room for experimentation in melodic and textural regions. Sounds are unrevealing and enticing. Never fully unraveling, elements slowly morph into familiar acid-like timbres, before vanishing into a bed of reverb to devastating, hypnotic effect.
Patient and sensible sound design makes for a pleasing listen throughout the seven-minute duration. Fragile, ceramic-like percussion hovers low in the mix, soothing luscious pads buried beneath the low-end.
The EP remains on a deep tip, with Plusculaar melding clever breaks and twisted vocal work in the A1, ‘Trust With Love’. Label head Romain Proust opens the B-side with a defining tech house cut, meandering through hypnotising patterns in ‘Advance To Dance, paired with Eric’s conclusive ‘Outright’, bringing Ukrainian flavours to the table.
