For the fourth release from rising artist ELODIE and her Eloelo Records imprint comes her debut vinyl release and it is worth the wait. With previous release contributions from CHKLTE and Peter Pixzel already in the bag we now focus on 004 which comes complete with three original works and a remix from Michael James.
One thing that Eloelo Records is built on is the groove and Michael James’ remix of title track “Bohemian” is packed to the brim with just that. From the very beginning the catchy beat instantly draws in the ear, but where the original version from ELODIE keeps things stripped back James opts to mix it up with a flurry of snares and hi-hats. The repeating atmosphere that sits just behind the track provides the perfect platform for the track launch from. Taking the ethereal vocals from ELODIE’s original version, James uses these sparingly that elevates them towards the upper section of the track.
Flipping over to side B and “Like To Dream” offers a deeper trip, with metallic percussion and probing kicks taking care of the grooves nicely the expertly crafted sound design on the synths and pads is impressive. With each element nestled neatly to the next, it is almost as if they come from the same sound source. Lastly, “Pineapple Ice” treads similarly deep ground with the help of gated pads; there is a slightly different vibe at play here. Chopped and affected vocal snips add just the right amount of human touch to the wonky synths and skipping percussion.
You can pre-order “Bohemian” by ELODIE now from Juno.
