The Uruguayan duo Bok.p bring to the heat to the third release of Paris-based Outdom Records.
The vibrant vinyl and digital label continue a fine streak of form with this next V/A brimming with character. The collective is known within the French scene for their unique events across Paris, inviting the likes of KRN & Hicham to play in various locations in the city.
Inspired by the cross-over in genres as well as a retro-futurist theme found in this corner of dance music, the label aims to capture the essence of their musical influences, touching on house, trance, progressive and everything in-between. We featured the previous release from Retrolog’s vault of gems late last year.
Inspired by the 90s rave scene and the electric atmosphere created in much of this mind-body dance music. The album’s artwork pays homage to the late 90s cyberpunk aesthetic, reminiscent of circuit birds and rave party flyers, setting the tone for a journey into the heart of electronic soundscapes.
We zoom into the A2 track ‘Creator’ from Bok.p, a spirited duo who featured in our premieres earlier in the year, channeling a fiery sound packed with nimble, ninja-like percussion and big, rave-inspired basslines. Slick drum-machine rhythms are backed by an army of synths weaving effortlessly between a fairly busy palate of sounds. You can imagine the forest stage at Nostromo setting alight to this spicy track.
At the core of this release lies a fascination with electricity as both a physical force and a metaphorical element in music. From the sharp, rolling beats of tech-house to the dreamy minimal end of house, each track explores the connection between electricity, sound and the human experience.
Through the collaborative efforts of artists such as Latent & Retrolog, Bok.p, Lamalice, and Dixia Sirong, listeners are treated to a diverse array of sounds and styles, united by a common thread of exploration and innovation.
Latent & Retrolog open the record with a bendy break-beat number, wrapping an ominous bassline around creepy synths and clever sample work packing the track with energy. Lamalice is the dreamiest of the four, meandering through lush atmospheres and a weird vocoder part giving this retro-futurist vibe, before Dixia Sirong closes out on a lush, deep tip.
Buy the record or digital direct from the label’s Bandcamp.
