tINI returns to release-based action and not a moment too soon. After a brief rebrand, The Gang Records launches with a clutch of tracks from a squad of hitters, old and new. Music on the VA comes via MAN/IPULATE & BELIC, Lucas, Joolmad, and boss lady tINI, who delivers her own track, “Port,” in support of the Odessa club Port. All money from the sale of her track via Bandcamp will go to the club.
It seems only right that we focus our energies on the A1 track from tINI as Port club in Odessa has been a home away from home for tINI and the members of her gang for some time. The track, strangely titled “Port”, was made for an appearance at the venue prior to the war and has also been road-tested there. The upfront acid nature of the track speaks to the raw energy of the club, while the lush interludes that break up the action most definitely recall the beautiful moments that are often found amongst the madness of this special club.
Side A is completed by the joint efforts of Man/ipulate & Belic, who turn in the equally acidic “Polizisten”. Being no strangers to these pages Man/ipulate again flexes his knack for succinct and punchy grooves. He also has an inane skill for subtle yet highly effective drum programming, and the effects here, as usual, are devastating.
Flipping over to side B and Lucas opts for a bit more pace on “Subconsequent” but with the grooves stripped right back, this leaves more than enough space for the funk to develop. There is more than a look back at techno past with the electro synths playing a big part in the damage that this track is capable of.
Completing this excellent VA is another bomb from rising star Joolmad and “Naughtyness” stays true to its word. Squelchy from the off, Joolmad chops his way through a variety of classic vocal samples while building a raucous banger of a track around the repeating synth motif.
