Silat Beksi has quietly become one of the most reliable names in contemporary minimal, trusted for his impeccable sense of rhythm and his ability to shape grooves that flow naturally across long durations. The Ukrainian producer’s sound is subtle but distinctive, built on finely tuned percussion and textures that reveal more with each listen. On his latest outing, he links up with Barcelona-based Raru Cultural Movement for the label’s fourth vinyl release, a collaboration that feels like a natural fit.
We focus on the A1, ‘Mad Riz’, a track that sets the tone with a sultry, sunrise-friendly mood. From the outset, percussion feels soft and considered, gently ticking and evolving at its own pace. Everything is anchored by a spiralling sub bass that slowly wraps itself around the groove; the kind of low-end that really comes alive on a good sound system. It’s restrained but powerful, carrying the track forward with quiet confidence.
As the arrangement unfolds, a playful vocal line creeps into the mix, adding a human touch and a sense of humour. Spitting bars about ‘riz’, aka charisma, or maybe something a little more tongue-in-cheek, it brings lightness to an otherwise deep and hypnotic framework. The vocal never dominates, instead weaving in and out of the groove, enhancing the track’s charm without breaking its spell.
Beksi’s background is evident throughout. Having cut his teeth on labels such as Tzinah Records, Body Parts and Mulen Records, he’s long been recognised for his ability to balance emotive qualities with energetic, club-ready structures. ‘Mad Riz’ continues that lineage, sitting comfortably in the space between precision and warmth, where minimalism becomes expressive rather than clinical.
