Riccardo reignites the Australian label BeAvantGarde with a delightfully cosmic four track EP.
The Italian stalwart has long been a solid presence within the retroverted end of digging culture. As co-founder of Imprints Records and owner of Metropolita recordings, Amazing Stories and Elma Rivaga, Riccardo has overseen a fairly mind blowing amount of music. Outside of his personal labels, he’s released records on the likes of Time Passages, YaY and Voiceless, without mentioning the sea of digital releases on his Bandcamp.
It’s been four years since the first release of BeAvantGarde from TC80 and things haven’t changed so much. With such a solid and spacey aesthetic, the collective is happy to pursue another bunch of cosmic club bangers. Here we look at the A1’s ‘Inspace’, a deep progressive bubbler filled with the slick classic sounds you expect from a Riccardo record.
Even after years of tinkering with those classic synths and drum machines, he still manages to find something unique and interesting within a similar sonic palate. Nimble 808 drums sizzle over a pumping low end that constantly teases just enough to keep you holding on. Caressed by a stunning chord sequence that flutters with a deftly delicate essence, moods head towards a tear-jerking vibe for the right dance floor.
Acid pulses bring a sense of urgency and grit to the track, whilst the mood stays relatively pensive and tripped out. Luscious soundscapes build patiently as percussion becomes increasingly slippery. You can picture a bliss sunrise moment at the likes of Berlin’s Hoppetosse to this beauty. Sunlight poking through the blinds, club very much still full, Riccardo sifting through his bag of tricks. It’s a tried and tested weapon from a seriously seasoned artist dedicated to his craft.
