Red Pig Flower joins the Yama Music family in their seventh vinyl release.
The Berlin-based, Korean born artist continues to spread her wings within the trippier, more atmospheric territories of club music. Inspired by stripped back and minimal frameworks, her releases with the likes of Work In Progress and sleek DJ sets provide a snippet into the abstract world of Red Pig Flower.
Yama Music is a label ran by producers under the same name, part of the extended Yoyaku distribution family, their solo productions make up the majority of the catalogue, alongside guest features from the likes of Birdsmakingmachine and TIJN.
The collective maintain a low profile with limited information surrounding the project, presenting quality, no-frills minimal jams on hand stamped vinyl. The crew also showcase their tastes with a weekly radio show on Bloop London.
Evolution of Red Pig Flower’s sound and process is evidence from the off in this premiere. Marking her first vinyl release since 2020, the A1 track ‘Cabbage’ is loaded with groove and carries a full-bodied energy that nods to meticulous mixing and sound design, as well as warm, analogue production methods.
The energised cut walks the line between house and techno, hosting subtle beats and a mischievous bassline that could find place in the sets of many cross scene selectors. Crafty sample work forms a significant character within the track, splashing acapella vocals between stabby chords and short, snappy percussions adding to the moreish charm.
Pensive pads eventually gloss over the mix, adding a refreshing elegance to the track, whilst maintaining a playful and groovy energy hungry for the dance floor. Founders Yama Music complete the A-side with a deep and gentle cut exploring beautifully subtle melodies. Tender keys paint a glorious melodic line above short and inoffensive percussion. It’s the kind of audiophile minimal cut that accompanies the after-hour and warm-up sessions to perfection.
Sleep Is Commercial affiliate Cem G opens up the flip side with a classy, broken-beat infused jam. Dreamy chords and atmospheres set a delightful, sunrise-friendly tone that builds a foundation for slick, crafty drums flirting between a simple bassline. UK duo Yard One close out the record with a unique affair, bending similarly dreamy chords over a peculiar driving beat that brings a refreshing depth to the record.
This low profile label is soon becoming one to watch with a growing roster of talented producers, presenting music in an honest and expressive manner to top sounding wax.
