Premiere: A1 – Mariano Mateljan – Cquence [GILE013]

Gilesku Records care for quality over quantity. The Slovenian based label has been on the scene now for a decade and releases have been drip fed throughout this time. The likes of Vlad Caia, Onur Ozer and Vinyl Speed Adjust have all featured and now the label returns with a second appearence from Mariano Mateljan.

The release comes after a rather impressive year for Mateljan, both as an artist and as a DJ. 2019 saw him return with an EP on INFUSE, meanwhile from the DJ booth he’s been playing back to back with the likes of Cesar Merveille and Sonja Moonear. This isn’t the first time he’s featured on Trommel either; rewind back to 2017 and you’ll find a quality live recording from Sonus festival in our podcast series.

Cquence takes the premiere from GILE013. The bassline is deep, dark and rolling, an infectious bounce that never falters, making it a dancefloor mover from the off. Groove comes courtesy of a swing filled hi-hat that becomes more prominent, dipping out meticulously as the track develops. The mischievous melody simply squidges across every bar in playful fashion while small, mechanical sounds buzz around casually in the background.

The vocal receives careful attention throughout and it’s clear the artist had fun with this one. The ‘break’ sample takes many forms, in speed and in pitch, creating an intensity that hits its peak quite aptly during the breakdown.

Cquence is upbeat, interesting and peak time party worthy. It’s playful yet dark tones make this a track that could feature as easily into a techno set as it would into house. Keep an eye out for its release on 31 January and purchase from deejay.de or Juno.
