Premiere: A1 – Ema Remedi – Even Odds [VQ081]

The Visionquest label needs little introduction. It has continued to be one of the leading labels in the electronic music scene, often ahead of the game with its ever developing sound. Three friends continue to head up the platform, all world renowned artists in their own right whilst growing a family spanning a multitude of talent. The most recent to join is Uruguayan star Ema Remedi with Outsider EP.

Remedi has been Berlin based in recent years and whilst a lot of her time has been dedicated to honing in on her unique style productions, she is often found playing clubs across the city, including her Loosen Up residency alongside Cesar Merveille at one of our favourites, Club de Visionaere. Our latest premiere Even Odds showcases Remedi’s signature sound.

Trippy, mysterious chatter dominates the track, a common theme in several of her productions to date. As is the thumping bassline, injected with subtle groove that won’t sound anything less than power when punching its way through a sound system.

This deep thump is lifted by light high notes drifting in the background until the first major breakdown when the synths come to life, hollow house keys innocently purring over that big bouncing bass. Deeper vibes take hold towards the close, a rising intensity that captures a darker essence of minimal, reminding those lost in the earlier lighter flavours that this track is not innocent, it’s naughty.

Recent years have seen Ema Remedi come to the forefront of the underground scene. Not surprising considering the unique flair we continue to find in her tracks. This is sure to be a proud moment releasing on such an esteemed record label as Visionquest – but it is without doubt well deserved.
