Now in their seventh year, Seattle-based label Rhizome returns after a brief hiatus with their fifth vinyl release—Midnight Sun, a timeless production consisting of two carefully crafted tracks by iconic Brazilian-Serbian duo Duc In Altum, each accompanied by a remix from Romanian maestros Priku featuring Dinu on the first track “Midnight Sun”, and Sepp on the second one, “Yanomamis”.
Hailing from Novi Sad and São Paolo, Arjana and Eric Jonsson from Duc In Altum are some of the key-figures in the electronic music scene of Brazil and beyond. For more than a decade, they managed to make a lasting impact with their productions and DJ sets around the world, having played at international festivals such as Sunwaves, Exit, or Epizode, and receiving recognition on their productions from several other artists in the industry.
Today we’re taking a look at “Midnight Sun”, the EP’s title track on side A1. This hypnotic, acidy piece starts off with a mystical and mindful atmosphere before seamlessly transitioning into an irresistible groove that keeps your feet glued to the dancefloor when the track reaches its climax, making it a dancefloor-ready banger wrapped in a dark, minimal allure.
Next on side A2 is Priku and Dinu’s remix on “Midnight Sun”, showcasing their distinctive approach on the track. Staying true to their characteristic style, they transform it into an upbeat, groove-infused journey, driven by a lively bassline and crisp tech-house notes.
Flipping over to side B1 and “Yanomamis” has a charming dreaminess that makes you close your eyes while dancing to let your mind wander around. Smooth, pulsating rhytms breathe life into the track, while the delicate pads and subtle kicks add an undeniable charm. Closing the EP on B2 is Sepp’s remix on “Yanomamis” with his funky, signature sound that you can recognize in a heartbeat and still not get enough of.
