Premiere: A1 – Denis Kaznacheev – Don’t Hide Yourself Miss Summer [MAYAK012]

Nervmusic co-founder Denis Kaznacheev has carved out a special place out for himself in recent years, with a slew of minimal, yet dancefloor-ready releases for the likes of Minibar Music, Raro Music, and Castanea Records his sound hits a great balance between glitch and groove. This groove led reductionist ethos sits perfectly with Russian imprint MAYAK Records as they’re releases tend to sit at the special place just before peak time, but are more often than not bomb material every time such is the quality of their output.

Heading straight for A1, “Don’t Hide Yourself Miss Summer” takes full advantage of this 180gram heavyweight slab of vinyl and makes sure to take time to develop each of the elements of the track. The stuttered drum pattern only goes to enhance the feeling that something special is coming and it certainly does when the forlorn synth appears during the first full breakdown. The clever use of distortion and an other worldly sound palette that Denis employs builds a truly atmospheric journey that would really set a unique tone during any set.

While over on the flipside, “Hogkin-Huxley Model” offers insight in to an artist that employs more than just mere feeling into his productions. Relating to a mathematical equation involving neutrons B1 is a much deeper cut than A1 and offers a darker contrast to the optimism of “Don’t Hide”. While still retaining the snappy characteristics of Kaznacheev’s drum programming B1 is definitely one for the business end of a set.
