Overture Records invite Ruven Medici for their second release, with Carebears returning for remix duties.
The project was born earlier this month with the premiered debut from Alicia Hush, marking the start of an in-house journey between Carebears and their agent Sara. Pushing a stripped-back, elegant aesthetic, the Italian crew continue to evolve their contributions to club music in 002.
Ruven Medici brings three unique cuts exploring tight, percussion-driven formulas. Poly-rhythms intersect at a satisfying rate, blending between nimble basslines and soulful chord sections, alongside remixes from Andrea Caioni and Carebears.
The duo brings a delightfully positive energy to ‘Sunjam’. Funky bongo work adds a playful Latin vibe, slotting neatly between a subtle sub bassline and a moreish hi-hat rhythm tying the beat together.
Breakdowns are more elaborate than much of the pairs more tool-driven work. Stunning pads glide over the track like a reassuring blanket, steadily growing over percussion into the head-in-hands breakdown around the five-minute mark.
Elements carry a warm and welcoming charm, tapping into the deeper end of the spectrum, although managing to maintain a healthy, uplifting groove. It’s the kind of enigmatic, driving minimal that could slot neatly into a long-form minimal set, marking a euphoric chapter.
Fellow Italian artist Andrew Caioni brings a chunky house heater in his remix of ‘Crossroad’, working a thirsty bassline over dreamy melodies littered with short, snappy percussion.
Each cut throughout the release offers an inspired, dance-floor friendly mood sure to soundtrack many of the showcases upon the lifting of lockdown’s regulations.
