Symetric Sound are about to drop their biggest project yet, on digital sub-label STAMINA. The Swiss collective might have known Root would go on to be a mainstay across platforms when the first record was released last year. Teaming up with Paul K on the Society of Illusions EP, Root made the step aside from his own labels danzha and Saraw Records, introducing Symetric Sound.
Now he switches from vinyl to online, making the most of the space he has in the realm of the virtual. A whopping eighteen tracks make up the album entitled Tiempo. Two collaborations join the rest of the originals, featuring appearances with Atmann and Iza.
With so much in the pipeline across his own labels, as well as Untitled Musica, Sonet Records and Ouyayebu Records, it’s a testament that Root can find the time. Thankfully he does and the fruits keep on coming. We present one of the many from this very large STAMINA release.
‘Broken Glass’ keeps a steady chugging beat that kicks heavy, despite its undeniably soft temperament. Warped chords slowly paint a strange narrative, elongated melody satisfying a little warmth in the midst of the hefty chasm around it.
Bassline booms as a light hi-hat taps next to solid clap. A distinct roll gives the nod to groove, something to get lost in as you follow the rhythm. The build is patient, there’s no rush as the elements grow to the five minute mark.
As the beat settles, focus takes to the melody. Pads stretch, percussion breaths softly and textured notes sing a more playful story. Warmth takes over, dipped in static and brushed with an extra-terrestrial blend. The slight unease of the previous bars is purified with a new sequence of pleasantness.
The digital EP is due to be released this week via Bandcamp.
