Valencia disaster to receive support from a range of charitable initiatives

One of the most devastating natural disasters to hit Spain has left large parts of Valencia in ruin thanks to a phenomenon known locally as DANA. The resulting weather system meant that catastrophic floods tore through towns such as Chiva, Utiel, Buñol, Piccasent, and Torrent leaving thousands of people homeless and sadly many lost their lives. To help provide support there have been several initiatives to help the people of Valencia recover from this disaster.

First of all, a new initiative Artists for Valencia has been set up to help and with transparency being at the heart of this project, all funds will pass to those who need them the most without the need for an intermediary. Driven by the clubs, spaces, and promoters of Valencia, inviting singers, creators, content makers, DJs, and all kinds of artists who once shared their talent and art in their city to help them return to normalcy. As well as the Valencian community this has also drawn attention from the wider artist sphere with Portugal’s Carpet & Snares also getting involved. You can check out the initiative and donate here.

Next is a 40-track VA from record label 22 Recordings, with a clear mandate of helping the worst-affected communities they have drafted in a team of artists who have kindly gifted the cause some of their work. With 100% of all proceeds going to Fundación Horta Sud and 8Tumbao over the coming months, this outpouring of musical donations will go some way to helping Valencia through this terrible situation. There are tracks from a range of artists that include Dani Labb, Denaila, C.ru.z, Liquid Earth, Louison, tINI, Dc Salas, Saverio Celestri, and Z@P to name just a few of the involved artists. The massive 40-track compilation can be accessed via Bandcamp.

Silverlining has also launched his own donation initiative via his recent Dubs in the Pub event at The Lion and Lamb. His fundraiser will split funds equally between the Valencia cause and the Gaza / Lebanon war. The first half, in association with Valencia’s Oven Club, will be used to rent transportation and buy urgent supplies that will be personally delivered by trusted members of the Oven team. This project has already mobilised hundreds of donations to affected areas.

The second half will be gifted to Taawon (Welfare Association), a non-profit civic organisation launched in Geneva in 1983 by a group of Palestinian business leaders and intellectuals. Taawon has become one of the largest organisations operating in Palestine and the diaspora camps in Lebanon, touching the lives of more than one million Palestinians on an annual basis, with half of these beneficiaries being women. For those who could not attend this event, you can also donate to each cause via the links below.
