Sophie Festival returns to Malaga with an increased footprint for 2023

After a huge first season, Malaga based Sophie Festival will return this June with a few tweaks to proceedings while maintaining the impossibly high standard of human experience. The previous port side site of the gardens of the Palacio de Congresos in Torremolinos has been swapped for the more city centre locale Autocine Malaga in order to introduce more dancers to the heavy weight guests that will be gracing the decks across the full season. This change of surroundings will enable more freedom of movement to the action and will enable the huge growth plans to take shape. The previous edition had a footprint of 2,000m2 and the 2023 instalment will cover more than 10,000m2, the increase in fun is somewhat considerable to say the least. With the increased size, there will be a massively expanded team sheet of artists and this will mean 146 artists, from 60 different agencies across 50 different nationalities.

Launching straight out of the blocks on Saturday, June 3rd Sophie Festival will be picking up where it left off last season by arranging only the finest artists but this time with a much wider sonic remit. In a slight departure from last year, Sophie will be running every two weeks and will instead swapping one all-encompassing stage for three dedicated dance spaces and music experiences with huge spectrum of music and names to choose from. The Main Stage will feature the biggest headliners that the electronic world is capable of and they don’t come bigger than Adam Beyer, Peggy Gou, Dubfire, Stephan Bodzin, KOBOSIL, The Martinez Brothers, and Ellen Alien. With this being Sophie Festival where their roots are firmly in the underground so these massive names will be tempered with equally big names from the other side that includes Traumer, Anthea, Leo Pol, Marlie, Guti, Olga Korol, Peach, and Ida Daugaard.

Tunnel Stage will be dedicated to international crews with dates with VBX, Cocoa, Sousopp London, and we will also be bringing our own brand of house, techno and minimal. For our party we will be presenting sets from the brightest names in the business in Giammarco Orsini, Praslea, Barcelona based Ozzy Morgan and duo of the moment O.Bee & Tomas Station. Also appearing on this stage over the course of the season will be resident act and founder of the project, Art No Logia, Nicolas Lutz, Francesco Del Garda, Quest x Christian AB, Fonte, Junki Inoue, Gabbs, Giorgio Maulini, Reiss B2B Youandewan, Jonny Rock, and Liquid Earth to name just a few.

The Modular Stage will be dedicated to domestic crews and this location will be a strong hold for the Spanish promoters, artists and dancers that are the life blood of the national underground scene. The first edition will belong to Roots and keen followers of these very pages will be well aware of the outrageous parties that they throw at Goya Social Club. Also, appearing will be Barcelona club Les Enfants Brillants and everybody knows what goes on at this club and for this to be transferred to an outdoor setting will be something special. Also programming the Modular Stage will be La Vida de Jaime, Quinoa Experience and the Alexis Cabrera / Ignacio Morales owned Calypso. Across the first few events you can expect to catch Djebali, Chris Gorrie, Raphael Carrau, Tunik, Alexia Glensy.

The music is only one of the main elements to this sizeable offering and the production will of course be off the hook with full L’Acoustic line array’s doing the sonic heavy lifting. An immersive touch by Landscapes (MIRA Festival) will flood the stages in visual delights while there will also be a marketplace, chill area, Gastronomic Zone as well as all the unique additions that make Sophie Festival one the most exciting new festivals to hit the circuit, Malaga without a doubt.
