Sophie Festival has truly revolutionised the large scale event scene in Malaga and with their 2024 season about to kick off later this month we can confirm the mega stars that will be drawing your attention to the main stage throughout the summer. This season there will be six dates that you need to have in your diary and with each date comes the promise of blockbusting headliners each and every edition. We have not even begun to discuss the insane stage production that will be on show each event too.
From the first event at the stunning green of Malaga’s Ogus Park on Saturday, June 29th the stage will be filled with certified hitters. Topping the bill of this first event will be none other than Plastikman aka Richie Hawtin and what the techno visionary doesn’t know about commanding a stage just isn’t worth knowing. He will be joined by an equally larger than life character in Nina Kraviz, having recently reconnected with her minimal roots by way of her release on Thomas Melchior’s My King Is Light imprint this event will be strictly techno. These techno credentials will be further enforced by hometown hero Oscar Mulero.
Two weeks later on Saturday, July 13th there will be a different flavour being presented. This time around there will be a distinctly house taste circulating from the mammoth main stage. British artist and Hot Creations founder Jamie Jones will be taking place at the top of this one day festival and fresh from his closing set at Sunwaves his skill in bringing down the curtain are beyond reproach. Headliners in their own right Seth Troxler and Hot Since 82 can also be found on main stage duties during this edition.
Hitting the midpoint in the 2024 program of Sophie Festival on Saturday, July 27th will see another triple threat of top shelf artists and this will see arguably some of the biggest scenes of the season. German icon and Cocoon boss Sven Vath will be bringing his show stopping antics to Malaga and there will certainly be fireworks. Long time collaborator and equally captivating selector Sonja Moonear is on the lineup to add her own touch of flair. Completing the clutch of headline acts will be the American duo of The Martinez Brothers, with so much star quality on offer it is hard to choose the headliner between these array of household names.
Moving towards the business end of the season and Saturday, August 3rd and the stage filling sounds of techno will be ringing out from start to finish. Belgian starlet Charlotte De Witte will again be proving why she is adored by her legion of fans. Her partner in crime and in life Enrico Sanguilano will also be enhancing the Sophie FEstival experience with his tough, big room brand of techno. Lastly, but by no means leastly is The Wizard aka Jeff Mills. By this point providing an introduction to one of the most respected techno artists of all time seems redundant. His three deck mixing, 909 machine jams, and inane mastery of the genre know no bounds.
The stars just keep coming as minimal legend turned festival heavyweight Loco Dice makes an appearance at Sophie Festival on Saturday, August 14th. His residency at Circoloco at DC10 holds a very dear place in the heart of clubbers and DJ’s alike and helped to put the minimal sound of old on the map. He will be joined by three of his contemporaries from that era who have now joined together to form the French supergroup Apollonia. Dan Ghenacia was also a pivotal figure in this scene at this point but has since elevated to near godlike status alongside Shonky and Dyed Soundorom. Rounding out this outrageous lineup is Sophie Festival mainstay Giorgio Maulini.
Completing the program on Saturday, September 7th and the final headliner of the season is Solomun. Another artist that needs absolutely no instruction as his consistent presence at the biggest parties are world renowned. Solomun will be joined by Johannes Brecht and Club De Combat. As with previous seasons, there will be much much more news to come with many many more artists to be confirmed. Just keep your eyes glued to these pages for further details.
