ABC Collective are in the process of having a huge year and with a crew as talented as this the highlights will come thick and fast. Beginning with their long running showcase at Arad Open-Air Festival and as well as their own precision tuned Void soundsystem they brought to the stage a sizzling selection of artists as well as full complement of ABC artists that included Atmann, Bread&Butter, Herck, Sandru, Somesan, Timirash and visualist Senpai Stuff. This may be their biggest event but certainly not an isolated party as they have had showcase events every month since June featuring guests Suciu, Zefzeed, Cesar, SIT, Ion Ludwig, Paul K, Mihigh, as well as the mighty [ar:pia:r].
The undoubted collective success that have been enjoyed by the team has also been bolstered no end by the individual strengths of its talented members. A mainstay within the group, Bread&Butter has been busy in the studio and his recent ‘Spit Fire’ EP on H24 Musique has cemented his deep, dark and growling style that he has become so revered for. At the very core of ABC is teamwork and the core artists regularly combine out with their home label and this is evident on his and Somesan’s inclusion on recent Fratii.ro’s VA.
Stepping a bit further back in the year and Bread&Butter combines with Gabor where a much softer side emerges on ‘Omniasig Regroove’ where modular grooves hollow percussion is coupled with muted piano chords and warped vocals to great effect. Sandru is also a perfect for Bread&Butter’s style and the two often co-produce bombs. First of all the pair appear on Dutch label Implimind where ‘Lacuna Albstra’ circles around tough sub bass by way of a cosmic percussion motif. This partnership is doubled by their addition to Utro’s first birthday VA and ‘Sinner In Me’ is attitude personified.
Having thrived when in the studio with partner in crime Bread&Butter which has also resulted in ‘The Strategy’ also featuring on the H24 Musique VA Sandru combines again on Always Bring Cash 009. A core member of the ABC Collective, Sandru has featured on much of the Always Bring Cash back catalogue dating back to the second release. From the undulating ethnicity of ‘Aye’ on 002 to the muted drums of ‘Hau Mai Gad’ on 003 all the way through the most recent release. Having featured at most of the ABC events and consistently plays a starring role in their success. These highlights don’t just stop with their releases and own events as Bread&Butter and Sandru will be joining Bloop Recordings in Lisbon on Saturday, September 24th.
Another main player in the ABC setup is Timirash and with a slew of solo and collab releases on Always Bring Cash and countless hotly tipped DJ sets he has also launched a new alias TmrsTn alongside Stanu. Building his profile via the extensive ABC labels output TmrsTn and Timirash has been in with the bricks since day one and regularly trades studio sessions with Bread&Butter. His trippy, bleep filled grooves have also graced Fratii.ro, Euphorik, as well as self-released gems via Bandcamp. As well as the various solo and collaborative digital releases that have emanated from the ABC studio’s this year there will also be several vinyl relases on abc.ltd with 002 coming from Bread&Butter and 003 coming from the all-encompassing ABC Collective. Romania is an ever-expanding treasure trove of minimal goodness and ABC are a crew that has been rapidly expanding since day one.
