Art of Dark has long been one of London’s most notorious parties known for their extended set times and repeat bookings of artists central to the underground. Nurturing a strong connection to many of Europe’s most prolific artists, the crew regularly welcome the likes of Onur Ozer, Nicolas Lutz and Binh.
Born from humble beginnings of hosting a small party for friends, the collective has evolved into a serious label and event series that recently celebrated 13 years in the game with a huge 23-hour showcase. It’s in these moments where new and old music heads alike dive into a feast of innovative music, soundtracked by the likes of Jane Fitz, Sohrab and Matthias to name a few.
It’s an ethos that puts a lot of trust in the artists. By encouraging expression via great-sounding spaces, the collective is happy to present artists again and again with confidence that they will bring something different each and every time.
Art of Dark head to Village Underground on the 11th of November for a late Halloween session with two of Romania’s most revered selectors. Raresh and Praslea are the perfect examples of devoted artists guaranteed to present something fresh every time you hear them play.
With a connection that spans way back into the early 2000s, the duo have racked up more time on the decks than most. Each bringing their own zest, when the two sync up for extended back-to-back sets, something special happens. This year, they will play for six hours after a warm-up set from tastemaking DJ and AOD head Colin Chiddle.
Supported by strong sound systems and a patient crowd, these marathon sessions are really where you hear the best from artists. Given time to tap into a flow state and get comfortable with the setting, time slowly fades away and hours fly over.
You can be sure to hear a tonne of unreleased music from the close community of Romanian artists, as well as old and rare digs, slick edits and everything in between.
