Last month plans were laid bare for a selection of special offerings during Sonar week, courtesy of two of Barcelona’s most established party starters. The two clubbing mainstays, Les Enfants Brilliants (LEB) and INPUT, have often been seen collaborating in recent years. This is a pairing that can only compliment, in this case bringing innovative artist selections via a packed out schedule that if you’re not careful, could dominate your weeklong cubbing calendar.
LEB is absolutely a firm favourite on the clubbing circuit in Barcelona and there are several reasons why. First to take your attention is the perfectly primed programming, fixated on bringing top tier talent from the underground movement across house and minimal. Label showcases, night long takeovers and birthday specials bring the likes of Dubfire, Sonja Moonear, Arapu, Traumer, Lamache, Francesco Del Garda, tINI. The list goes on and on.
Aside from the artists it brings, it’s the setup of the club inside that keeps you coming back for more. An impressive sound system delivers tastefully to an intimate space, bathed in bright red lasers that flicker in the night. This futuristic feel bears much resemblance to what might be an extra terrestrial vessel and so the venue earned its nickname of the ‘spaceship’. This combination of ever enticing lineups with a uniquely special setting has seen LEB earn its stripes, as one of the most respected underground clubs in the city.
Despite its excellence, it doesn’t stop there. Together with INPUT, LEB continue to offer up new initiatives. Day parties and different venues, all capitalised with the same flair for programming.
Part of the Sonar week schedule was due to take place at Opposite, a new venue that unfortunately will no longer be ready to open for the occasion. This came as a bit of a blow for Half Baked and Sci + Tec, who were both due to showcase their own and have since had to cancel. However, despite the initial disappointment, the show will continue in part, with both Salty Nuts and Berg Audio having signed up for evening slots at LEB.
This is a rare opportunity to enter the spaceship early on. It also opens up the opportunity for a potential up to 14 and a half hour session in one of the finest dance spots in Barcelona. With a 30 minute change over in the middle, both Wednesday and Friday will lead one party onto the next.
Fabe and his Salty Nuts imprint will take over the club from 5pm on Wednesday, where the man himself will be performing live for the very first time. This is an artist who couldn’t look more comfortable at the helm of his music machines and this debut will no doubt be a memorable one. The label head will be joined by Alex Falconer, Cristi Cons, Lauren Lo Sung and Nekes, for a six and a half hour session that delivers from the off. Apollonia take over the night time. As ever, the French trio will take the controls for an all night b2b2b. A tried and tested formula that has become a firm fixture in the LEB Sonar Week.
Friday’s day time antics will commence from 4pm – 11:30pm with Berg Audio. Also based in Barcelona, they bring some of the best names along with them. Priku, Arapu, Janeret, Andrey Pushkarev, Mihai Popoviciu, Lola Palmer and Selidos. Many of whom are very much used to playing in the club. This one will lead on into the Get-traum showcase, which brings label boss Traumer back to LEB alongside Gescu, Sublee and Alex. OUTPUT remains unchanged. For this year’s OFF edition, they are setting up camp at a festival worthy venue placed just 20 minutes outside the centre. Offering a sure fire way to celebrate our favourite sounds in the comfort of nature, the place boasts a forest, a swimming pool and a stage that will be set with only the finest Funktion One. Right in the middle of the forest. With food trucks, chill out areas, bars and the option for a dip and a swim, this makes for an all rounded activity soundtracked by some of the most in demand names of the moment.
