When popular Leeds festival Cocoon In The Park announced it would be no more, a certain sadness swept across the city. The annual pilgrimage through the grounds of Temple Newsam had become a firm fixture for many. Sven Vath would be waiting at the bottom of the hill with his Cocoon comrades, all baring open arms and record bags full of fine techno beats. Each year being as special as the last. But before the people had time to reminisce, Newsam Park festival took its place and sadness instead turned to excitement.
Unfortunately, the launch couldn’t go ahead due to the pandemic. However, one year on, the event is primely positioned to take place on the amended date Saturday 21st August. This year has not been without its challenges for the promoters but credit to them, they are hanging on in there!
The familiar feel of Newsam Park’s predecessor will remain, with the main stage still to be firmly nestled in the garden of the epic estate. Papa Sven himself returns at the helm of a tight ship of the world-renowned. Drumcode don Adam Beyer has been drafted in to replace Jamie Jones, a well-worthy replacement joining the techno cohort. For the minimal heads, Romanian artist Rhadoo will join the festival too. They both sit alongside FUSE head honcho Enzo Siragusa and as always, support comes from system.’s own Annie Errez and Bobby O’Donnell.
In the absence of the affiliated label, the scope for the rest of the lineup is widened. The brand-new Lake stage offers a different surrounding and an alternative flavour. Palms Trax heads up the bill alongside Denis Sulta, Mella Dee and Folamour, while Dan Shake cannot make it anymore.
We’re edging closer and closer to the grand reopening of it all. News surrounding the return of festivals and club events alike just keeps on coming in. Yes things have had to change, but surely we’re nearly there. And the promoters are making sure we’re being well looked after, whatever the logistics.
Purchase your tickets for this one via the Newsam Park website. Buy four and they’ll throw an extra in for free. The same applies for the sister event Mint Festival, who recently dropped their own lineup. Think Ricardo Villalobos meets FUSE and your day is sorted.
