Myriad Recordings return with the latest instalment in their vinyl-only series, continuing their mission to spotlight diverse, genre-bending sounds. Previous releases have gained support from key names in the Romanian minimal scene, ar:pi:ar no less. However, the imprint isn’t bound to one sound. Instead, it embraces wide spectrum, spanning house, minimal, techno, and all spaces in between.
The next release comes courtesy of Dumitrescu, an artist as open to defying easy categorisation as the label he’s releasing on. Based in London, the Romanian producer channels a blended groove that brings together differing directions. And in the process, moving away from the typical style of Rominimal that you often might expect.
Four tracks make up this one and for the premiere, we have the opener ‘Acid-E’. The story begins diving into the deeper realms of techno infused house. Murky textures fill every space, as droplets of sound splash into synth notes. Lighter chords lift the mood, but there’s an ever present darkness that’s as inviting as it is unsettling. This blend of emotions keeps it captivating, locked in for the duration.
Next on the record is ‘Lucid Dream Gone Fucked Up’ which brings in the breaks, alongside all the acid you could ever ask for. On the B side, ‘Comeback’ kicks off with high energy, driven by pummelling percussion and a rolling groove. Acid licks swirl through the melody, rising and falling in intensity with a relentless momentum. A peak tie weapon, that builds pressure without ever letting go.
‘Play Pause’ rounds out the EP, shifting the gears one again – closing the journey with a warm, skipping house cut. Playful, bright and built around frolicking melodies, this is an acid tipped flair the lifts from the ground up.
