Art of Dark are back in full force with a Christmas showcase at FOLD.
The London crew have been central to the capital’s connection to the darker end of the genre fusing world of Nicolas Lutz, Binh, Onur Ozer and company. Known for their near decade of memorable showcases across the city in some of the most unique venues and after parties, the collective’s influence on contemporary culture is ever present.
In recent years, their label project has presented a series of tastemaking releases from the likes of Matthias, Do/Or/Die and Central Intelligence exploring an ethereal palate loaded with attitude.
Inspired by the old school aesthetic in both music and its experience on the dance floor, Art of Dark events are trusted to offer extended sets on great sound systems that enable artists to bring their best.
Returning to their frequent home on Boxing Day this year, FOLD welcomes the mind-expanding selections of Binh. Outside of his mesmeric productions on the likes of Perlon and his own Time Passages, his DJ sets have remained at the forefront of the digging community for many years, building a reputation for his otherworldly, decade-spanning sets.
Seeking out forgotten gems from the fringes of 90s techno and electro, you can be sure to hear a plethora of inspiring records you’ll likely never hear again. His sound bridges the gap between house, techno and electro, delving into the deeper ends of each genre through his own unique lens of trippy, rave-friendly moods.
The repeat booking nature of this corner of club music is testament to the level of dedication involved in their process. Binh has played for Art of Dark many times, constantly evolving his selection and showcasing the fruits of his obsessive digging habits.
Joining him for the Christmas session is another pair of dedicated record diggers. The Italian talent Brasi brings his emotive palate, touching on 80s inspired beats and lush atmospheres sure to make for ecstatic moments on the FOLD floor. London based Vass completes the bill of DJs with his intriguing record bag that is a familiar face at Art of Dark.
Completing the bill is the Dutch live artist Eversines. His prolific streak of productions have found home on the likes of Twig, De Vlieger and Nous’klaer Audio which he will weave through in an interesting live set to accompany the crew of diggers.
After seeing in the sunrise with Binh’s closing set, the party continues at the notorious Star Lane Pizza Bar. From 6am, the crew will serve up the breakfast beats right through until 2pm with a selection of artists yet to be announced. It’s no secret that artists from FOLD often end up playing very special, intimate after hour sets in Star Lane’s cosy setup.
