Romanian maestro Mihai Pol delivers, a deep, ethereal flip on Bohrium’s latest release on their White series.
Infamous turbo-producer ‘Unknown Artist’ rears their head again for yet another release! This time, in charge of the waxy goodness, we have Spanish imprint Bohrium Records marking the third edition in their ‘White’ series. With the white series dedicated to releases from incognito producers, the original series has seen the likes of Lukea, Techu, Dorothy’s dream, Barac and more having some top tunes pressed to wax.
For their white series, Bohrium have left things decidedly blank – with no descriptions, artist info or label info, the onus is put on the details between the grooves and leaves the music to do the talking. However, if you feel like you can trace a sample back to a particular track, you are probably not wrong.
As much as we can’t release any details of the artist behind the original tracks on the release, it is with great pleasure we premiere a very tasteful rework from Romanian maestro Mihai Pol.
A1. “Untitled 01” opens proceedings with a floaty number where the grooves are nestled in amongst a bed of warm harmonies that evolve and glisten as drums develop in tandem. Soothing, afterhours stuff that nourishes the soul.
A2. “Untitled 02” continues in a similarly deep fashion, punctuated by a pedal bass that injects a tasty bump each time it comes around. Sublime melodies and ethereal samples meander around, feeling familiar, but dream-like, would love to know the original sample source, but to me it feels reminiscent of an old friend of mine.
On the flipside the artist embellishes on the ethereal and emotive sides in “Untitled 03”, as they introspect with a beautiful progression on a piano that glides through a host of extraterrestrial synthesis that echoes and accompanies the lead line. Percussion and bass notes hit tightly on this one as delays paint the spaces in between. Picturesque soundscapes meet intentional and powerful usage of harmonies… tasty stuff!
Rounding things out, Mr. Pol delivers his interpretation of “Untitled 03”, in his usual indelible style, reimagining motifs and energy from the original, in a robust and effortlessly spacious retelling. With grooves that hypnotise from the off, the rest becomes ear candy and stimuli that float atop, adding interest and intrigue at every turn, whilst drums underpin the track as a consistent, driving force.
With early support from Gescu, Priku, Crihan, Traumer, Tania Vulcano and more, it’s no surprise deejay.de have listed this one as a hot tip, grab yours now before they sell out.
