Born in Berlin, established in Manchester and based in Madrid, Accented Measures flies the flag for a number of camps with his upcoming ‘Photons’ EP on brand new Manchester label M-Tone.
The original version on A1 is a punchy slice of cosmic minimal house that centres around a subtle synth stab, but it is the reworking from garage infused vibes from Monika Ross’ remix on B2 that grabbed our attention most.
Turning down a darker route to those before Monika employs a blown-out bassline that will threaten the integrity of most rigs alongside some downright naughty drum programming. The snipped stabs from the original are paired with paired down pads that were also a huge part of the original to great effect. Some extra elements are inserted by way of the neat scratching samples and the stuttering snare fills will light up any dancefloor.
M-Tone owner Andrew George maintains the subtlety of the original on A2 while adding some nicely swung sound FX and finely tuned drums that bob and weave their way through the track. Extra care and attention have been paid to the musical elements here too and there are some truly blissful moments peppered throughout the journey. Completing this impressive first release over on the flip side is a remix from Beste Modus co-owner and rising star Ed Herbst who raises the bliss levels through the roof with a shimmering take that features his trademark skipping drum programming.
‘Photons’ EP from Accented Measures is available on pre-order at Bandcamp now and will be released on 11/07.
