The Barcelona-based party series Algorythm Records from FRAXA and Paula GM launches their wax imprint with a stylish VA. The four-tracker comes correct with a clutch of tracks from co-founder FRAXA as well as Alexandre Vazquez, Mihai Pol, and our focus artists Miroloja.
Taking aim at Miroloja’s “Stella”, their trademark crispy grooves and bouncy basslines take center stage in the early part of the track. Waning synths are soon to join the act and provide a darker edge to an otherwise upbeat workout. Hushed vox hint at the coming second act, and the robotic vocal clips add ot the robust energy that has been well established from the outset.
Completing side B and the EP as a whole is Alexandre Vázquez and the low slung funk of “Blue Bird”. On more of a stripped back psychedelic trip than perhaps of the rest of the EP, the pitched down vocals and shimmer pads offer a great contrast to that of the rest of the VA.
Flipping back over to side A and Romanian master Mihai Pol reminds us just what he is capable of. Cropped drums mixed with expert mixing skills, he winds many sonic textures into his productions. This track excels especially with the arrival of the tumbled drums that seem to fall all over the place but regain composure at just the right moment in order to keep the beat from going sideways.
Completing side A is co-founder FRAXA and the deep crunchy bassline sits perfectly within the context of the VA and more than keeps strides with those around him. With an equally deep sub bass tone that stretches the length of the track underpins the succinct percussion and thought provoking vocal samples. As rocksolid a minimal house VA as any you will find in stores right now, the many extended parties that have come before have clearly been a huge influence on the label output and we look forward to see what coems next.
