Premiere: A2 – Terence Terry – Memory Mode [RBR001]

Frenchman Terence Terry has penetrated most facets of the Parisian underground scene, from his sets for the likes of Freak N’Chic, Rex Club, Nouveau Casino as well as a host of international dates in Ibiza, London, Berlin and his current home base of Madrid. Running parallel to his distinguished DJ career Terry has also added his French flair to studio outings for some of the scenes finest labels that include Cocoon, 2020, and Robsoul. Terry now joins the growing audiovisual RawBeats family which has its roots firmly planted in the scenes of Buenos Aires, Quito, Paris, and Guayaquil (Ecuador).

Now, in charge of delivering the first release from RawBeats Records Terence Terry turns out an impressive breakbeat ‘Memory Mode’ EP. Featuring 2 original tracks from the Frenchman and an on-point club remix from German hotshot producer DJ Honesty but it is the lead track from Terry that we have picked up to be given the full-length premiere treatment.

Situated on A2 ‘Memory Mode’ is a moody slice of lush broken funk that makes great use of the bubbling bassline and an almost sinister string line sets a serious tone of the first section of the track. This never detracts from the airy vibe of the whole track with the cool spoken male vocal keeping time throughout ‘Memory Mode’ is a very well weighted track that offers subtle drum patterns in order to keep the bad boy bassline to the fore.

Heading to A1 ‘All Really Close’ maintains this lush spacey take on breakbeat and develops this further with sweet modular noodling’s and catchy repeating synth notes that help to propel things skyward. Flipping over DJ Honesty inserts his trademark irresistible groove by his use of a 4/4 groove, rolling acidic bassline and the pitching down of the original vocals to stunning effect. Honesty really can’t go wrong here and anybody remotely aware of his previous work for the likes of Bass Culture and Cabinet Records will be very happy with the resulting track. As well as boasting sick music you will also notice the outstanding artwork from Youth Killing-Shakes that adorns this release and is a longstanding pillar of the RawBeats visual identity.
