London party series Picnic shapes their second vinyl release.
The UK outfit has been a staple of the London underground for the last eight years, throwing countless parties around the capital featuring the likes of Quest, Daniel Bell, and Slow Life.
Inspired by the contemporary scene of digging DJs and their decade-spanning sets, the outfit merges a mix of minimal and audiophile interest, with quirky, fun dance music. Last year’s showcase at FOLD invited Thomas Melchior, Vera, Christian AB & Spokenn on the same bill.
‘Seek A Life’ is a slick example of this intriguing sound in the featured premiere from Time Item boss Pelle.
A mean sub-bass that reeks of 90s bleep darts between splashy hats and a punchy kick. The vibe of the track casts a curious atmosphere, boasting a laid back, tech-housey attitude whilst meandering through ominous moods.
Lush chords wash over tight, analogue sounding drum programming that could slot neatly into the sets of the likes of Francesco Del Garda and Evan Baggs, pushing this genre-fusing movement forward.
‘Exibiting’ brings another gritty banger in the A1, weaving a nimble bassline between a rough, dry drum palate. Pelle links with fellow Amsterdam based Herra to conclude the EP under their Ph Project alias. Classy melodies float over a similar warm, vintage-sounding aesthetic packed with energy.
