After we presented the label mix from Andrey Pushkarev which comprised only of upcoming new tracks we knew it wouldn’t be long before a new bomb EP would arrive. It comes from label newcomer Lola Palmer who will also be given the Janaret and Priku & Dinu treatment on the track flips.
Lola may be new to Berg Audio but she is in no way new to the game. Her selections and productions have been championed by top Russian imprint Mixcult as well as countless other parties that she has graced.
The flow of premiere track A1 ‘Stay’ is impressive from the outset and Ukranian’s work with artists such as The Timewriter has stood her in good stead. The lead track undulates and shimmers in all the right places and the deep paddy atmospheres find their feet in the groove almost immediately.
Yoyaku mainstay Janaret is the obvious choice for remixing such a track and raises the resolution of the emotive pads and breathy strings. The result is a roomy dub weapon which gives more than a little nod to the progressive house of the 90’s.
Flipping over and the second original from Lola ‘Imagine That’ is equally deep and interesting. Stringy pads bloom and evolve over much of the track before the break down winds them down before injecting a dub motif that Steve O Sullivan would be chuffed with. Completing Lola’s debut Berg Audio 12” is another master of the deep – Priku. His work with Dinu has seen him cover a lot of ground in his recent releases and this is most definitely filed under “Deep & Moody”. The sparse bassline offers the occasional bump that works in tandem with the equally sparse and staccato percussion that lights up the track.
