Premiere: B1 – Cali Lanauze – Sixfortytwo [OP008]

Opulence founder Cali Lanauze has delivered several outings via his own label and his recent sprawling double EP collects together some outright OG artists that span a tidy cross-section of styles. As well as DJ W!ld, DJ Sneak, and Ryan Crosson Cali turns in a sublime piece of piano-led tech house in ‘Sixfourtytwo’.

The B1 track from Cali ‘Sixfourtytwo’ rolls out taught drums that hint at a reduced house work out but a few minutes in there is a well-crafted handbrake turn that shifts the focus towards the beautifully uplifting Rhodes keys arrangement. These motifs play out further down the line with a sunrise beckoning break down before the beats are enticed back into action.

Another track worthy of bagging the release comes via Romanian rising star Kozo. Starting simple, ‘See A Man About A Horse’ becomes fully absorbing, furthermore, offering the listener the impression of gradual meditative growth. Using different colourful pads, crisp voice sequences and the complex yet creative sampling process that has become the norm for minimal artists of this ilk remain throughout.
