Part of the BE9 family of labels Sukhumvit Records led by Ben Balance has been responsible for some of the Mannheim collectives’ grooviest moments. Having taken a bit of time off to concentrate on Ben’s other labels Yaji and NCSS it is time for the long-awaited 10th Sukhumvit 12” from hotshot Manchester artist Josh Baker and the wait has not been in vain.
‘EP-Y’ release kicks off with A1 and ‘In Two Minds’ is also our top choice from the EP. It is unadulterated dancefloor vibes from the off and the straight-up house groove is joined by a gnarly bassline that is without a doubt aimed straight at peak time floors. Classic house bass notes soon join the party and at this point the vibe goes through the roof. The rising pads and washing atmospheres really change things up and when they remerge later in the track there are some stunning energy switch-ups before the tightly woven groove drops back in.
The upfront housey grooves continue for the remainder of the 4-track EP with A2 track ‘Barge Deluxe’ picking up where ‘In Two Minds’ left off. Combining on-point percussion, cosmic sound FX, and the irresistible groove that has become Josh’s calling card. Flipping over to B1 ‘Apple & Pears’ journey’s further into outer space with some smart cosmic synth work and of course the high standard of drum programming that is a mainstay throughout Josh’s work. Rounding out this fire EP is ‘Laid Back Trax’ a lush workout that gives more than a little nod to the dream house sound of old but with a modern reboot. The You&Me resident is on a massive hot streak at the moment and this EP is a testament to this.
