One of the front runners of the top young UK producers is You&Me head Josh Baker. His Infectious basslines, catchy riffs, and laser-guided production has caught the attention of many top labels that includes PIV, Sukhumvit, and of course his own You&Me imprint. For the third outing, he collects together three bangers that he and studio partner Alfie Jack produced during last year’s 2-day studio session in Devon Analogue Studio.
Heading straight for title track and A1 ‘Hazard’ and more than lives up to its billing as level up music from Josh and Alfie. Most of Josh’s output up to this point has hit a very satisfying and often on point stride and seldom disappoints. However, by his own admission, this EP sees his skills progress even further and ‘Hazard’ is the pick of the release. Working in tandem Josh and Alfie have crafted a peak time bomb with layer upon layer of spacey melody, crisp snares, and cosmic pads. The shimmering breakdown around halfway through the track is so well cultivated that it is clearly going to go down a treat regardless of who drops it.
‘Simplistic’ on B1 is a totally different beast while retaining the energy of the release the deep driven bassline gives more than a nod to the high BPM house of the ‘90s. While the lads add in their signature percussive touch this will suit a wide range of house jocks. B2 ‘Night’ is a much deeper track but still manages to keep the BPM’s elevated where the need in order to bang at more peak times. As always, the drum’s programming is excellent and the execution of the ideas is beyond reproach. We cannot wait to see what else the remainder of the 12 tracks in the 2-day studio session will yield in the coming months.
