Having featured the last Frame Realities a few months ago we happy to see the Swiss label return with more finely tuned minimal tech house. Fellow Swiss artist M.A. rounds up two of his influences from the 80’s and 90’s and weaves them into several punchy yet funky original cuts along with Italian Distilled Noise and label regular Squep both turning in remixes.
Minimal continues its love affair with hip in the ‘Boy & Girl’ EP and M.A.’s complex rhythms are as slick as they come. Heading straight for the Distilled Noise remix of ‘Boy’ and the floaty yet full swagger and bite is present from the beginning. Where the original version presents a full kick and subtle undulating bassline and the focus is more on the intertwining acidic wiggles and synth stabs the remix is slightly more refined. Throughout there is an air of elegance to proceedings and the Public Enemy vocal snip is used in a range of pitches to great effect. The Dub version is even more refined and drops the energy levels to a deeper level by way of shimmering pads and intricate synth work. Squep takes ‘Boy’ in a slightly different direction but still nods to darker dubby influences with.
Tying up the release is another tidy tech workout that features the vocal talents of none other than Jungle Brothers but this is by no means the only highlight of the track. In a similar mode to ‘Boy’ interworking drums and modular percussion work as one to provide a weapon full of interesting grooves. The repeating snips and full verses from the original house classic work perfectly here and will surely do some serious damage on the floor.
FRAME011 will shortly be available via Beatport.
